Did Powerball Replace Mega-Millions In The Maryland Lottery?
In January of 2010, the Maryland lottery began
selling tickets for the Powerball drawings.
Powerball is similar to Mega Millions in how it is
played and that both are multi-state games. This
fact has led many to ask if Powerball is Replacing
Mega-Millions in the Maryland lottery.
The answer is an unequivocal "no". The addition of
Powerball to the lineup of games available to
lottery players in Maryland is just that, an
addition. The state will continue to sell tickets
for and participate in Mega-Millions drawings as it
has in the past.
One difference that should be pointed out is that
one can not purchase a subscription to the Powerball
game as they can with other lottery games. They can,
however, purchase tickets for future draws and
multiple draws up to 7 weeks in advance.
As time goes on, it is possible that the lottery
commission will continue to add new games for the
residents of Maryland to enjoy. There are not any
current plans to discontinue any of the large
jackpot drawings, though. It is not about replacing
one game with another, but rather, giving citizens
more options in how they choose to play the lottery.
Powerball simply added another chance for residents
to win a large jackpot.
